Essential Oils for Hypothyroidism

Essential Oils have been used for centuries to ease all kinds of health problems.  These three essential oils can help women suffering from hypothyroidism.

Peace and Calming

Insomnia, stress and anxiety are all symptoms of thyroid problems.  Peace & Calming® is a gentle, fragrant blend. When diffused, it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace. When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night’s rest. Peace & Calming may be especially calming and comforting to young children after an overactive and stressful day.

Peppermint Oil

Women with thyroid problems often suffer from digestive issues and brain fog.   Peppermint can help to solve both of these problems!  Peppermint (Mentha piperita) has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma. One of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion, it may also restore digestive efficiency.* Jean Valnet MD studied peppermint’s supportive effect on the liver and respiratory systems. Other scientists have also researched peppermint’s role in improving taste and smell when inhaled. Dr. William N. Dember of the University of Cincinnati studied peppermint’s ability to improve concentration and mental sharpness. Alan Hirsch MD studied peppermint’s ability to directly affect the brain’s satiety center, which triggers a sensation of fullness after meals. This powerful essential oil is often diluted before topical application. Peppermint may also be used to enhance the flavor of food and water.

Lemon Oil

Lemon has a strong, purifying, citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. Lemon consists of 68 percent dlimonene, a powerful antioxidant. It is delightfully refreshing in water and may be beneficial for the skin. Lemon may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons. Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of oil. In his book, The Practice of Aromatherapy, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.* Lemon has an approximate ORAC of 6,619 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.

Dr. Oz recommends Lemon Balm Extract as a natural non-addictive alternative to Valium for Instant stress relief. Works in the same way as valium on the same part of the brain just as fast without the side effects. Wow, nature does have the answers to even stress.

I would love to try something like this that would help. I have insomnia and my thyroid after 7 years is not under control yet though I am now implementing new techniques to turn this problem around. Can you recommend where would find the best research for these items. I am going to start a google search to begin with. I have to be cautious as there are so many things I have done and tried and much to my detriment. I always research inside and out. This looks like an amazing product should it work. I one similiar for bathes and a pepermint lotion but these didn’t have an affect. I would like to know all its affects.

I use Peace and calming every night. My 12 year old daughter also uses it. She loves it. Aromatherapy is considered to be complimentary medicine, meaning that it can be used along side traditional medicine. Young Living is a company that I trust. If I didn’t I would never use their products on my child or myself. If you have any other questions, let me know. I also have a great audio file about Peace and Calming that I will post here.

I have had my thyroid removed, and my dr. has put me on Syntroid, and 3 hormones. I would love to be off all of this? Is that possible? Can I do this with oils?

Oils can improve your overall health, and balance hormones. Since your thyroid has been removed, you will need to take a replacement hormone (synthroid) but you may be able to stop the other 3, depending on what they are.
